The Daily Journey:

Jesus said to the people of his day:

“You diligently study the scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life.  These are the scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.  -John 5:39,40

Too often its easy to come to the Bible for all the wrong reasons or to simply carry it around like our name badge identifying ourselves with it.  As we approach God’s word it is meant to lead us to Jesus- a living encounter with him through the power of the Holy Spirit.  It doesn’t matter how much or what you believe about the Bible.  That impresses others but it doesn’t impress God who knows the true condition of all our hearts.

The writer of Hebrews states:

For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

Dive into to Gods word.  I would start by looking at where I am.  What is my greatest need in life.  Jesus came to give life.  If you are dealing with fear, or anger, or need wisdom for a decision Jesus wants to meet you where you are at and supply that need, to give you life in that area of life.  You may need healing for a broken relationship or healing in your body- Jesus still heals broken bodies and broken hearts.

Spiritually you may have no idea who God is or how to find him.  Jesus said in John 14:6 - “I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the father except through me.”

Allow him to be your way, your life, the truth that your seeking.  Talk to him just just like you talk to your best friend.  He will not disappoint you.  He will start to show you himself and the Father and give you new life.

“But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
